Cloudflare interview guide¶
Global network for security, performance and the Workers developer platform; interviews favor practical pair programming, real-world system design and a values-based Orange Cloud round. Updated October 2026.
| Cloudflare at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Category | Big Tech |
| Intern level | Software Engineer Intern (2027), Austin: Winter/Spring (Jan to May 2027) or Summer (May to Sep 2027), 12 to 14 weeks, full time 40 hrs/week, in office 3 to 5 days, no remote or part-time. The 2026 cycle also hired in NYC, SF, Bengaluru, Lisbon and London; other intern titles seen include Data Engineer intern and System Software Engineer intern. |
| New grad level | Entry level is L1 on Levels.fyi (median TC USD 144K). Cloudflare does not publish level names; titles seen include Software Engineer and Systems Engineer. |
| 0 to 3 years | L1 to L2 on Levels.fyi (Levels.fyi says L1 holders typically have 1 to 2 yrs; L2 median 166K). L3 median TC USD 209K (L3 submitters average about 6 to 7 yrs). |
| Online assessment | HackerRank (only some tracks) : Not standardized. Canada SWE intern (Nov 2025): HackerRank technical screen before live coding. US SWE intern (Nov 2025): no OA, HM call then pair programming. Full-time: usually a live TPS instead of an OA. |
| Coding rounds | 1 TPS + 1 to 2 coding rounds in the panel (plus app coding for frontend roles). |
| Behavioral | Orange Cloud Interview, scored against Cloudflare's capabilities (values) |
| Timeline | Intern: interview process takes 3 to 4 weeks (Cloudflare blog, Sep 2025), batch review, 2026-cycle postings from Oct 15, 2025, 2027 Austin posting live from Sep 16, 2026. Full time: PracHub guide reports about 5 rounds over 4 to 6 weeks; individual reports range from a 2 month wait before the first screen (applied mid-Sep, first round early Dec 2025) to applying in July and starting rounds in October (Bengaluru 2025). Some loops paused mid-process for role re-evaluation (Austin 2026). Scheduling the final C-suite call can take about 2 weeks (Mar 2026 report). |
| New grad pay | Levels.fyi (US, page updated Oct 4, 2026): L1 entry median total comp USD 144K (base 130K, stock 13.8K/yr), L2 USD 166K, L3 USD 209K; Levels.fyi shows RSUs vesting 25% after year 1, then quarterly over the remaining 3 years. Interns: Cloudflare says intern pay is generally akin to the prorated salary of an entry-level position, plus a travel and housing stipend if you relocate (blog, Sep 2025). The 2027 Austin intern posting lists no pay range. India: a Mar 2026 SSE (4 yrs exp) Bangalore candidate was quoted INR 60 lakh base plus USD 80K RSUs over 4 years, about INR 79 lakh first-year comp. |

Interview process¶
New grad¶
- Recruiter or hiring manager screen. 30 min with a recruiter or the hiring manager (official step 1 is 'Initial Conversations' with a recruiter; in Dec 2025 and Bengaluru 2025 reports the first round was a 30 min HM call). Resume walkthrough and fit. Reported questions: why Cloudflare, which Cloudflare products you have used, a recent project in technical depth, production code you shipped, code review experience and conflicts in code review, how you debug production issues.
- Technical phone screen (TPS). 45 to 60 min live pair programming. Varies by team: a JavaScript task to solve without loops plus an extension (8 yrs exp, Bengaluru, Dec 2025), a minimum-partitions greedy problem (mid-level, May 2025), 3Sum extended to 4Sum (4 yrs exp, Jul 2024 loop posted Feb 2025). A Dec 2025 HM described the technical round as one hour of pair coding on debugging and problem solving, not necessarily a classic algorithm question. Often a base problem plus an extension.
- Panel interviews (team panel). Official step 2 'Team Panel Interviews' with your prospective manager and peers. Reports: 3 to 4 virtual rounds; one candidate was asked for 10 days of availability right after passing the TPS. Mix of: practical coding (hit counter, rate limiter, task scheduler, key-value store, Battleship-style game), app coding in a prepared repo (React + TypeScript, 4 tasks in 60 min for frontend roles), system design (often a deep dive on a project from your resume, or an edge-to-core log pipeline), project retrospective, debugging / code review, and sometimes a PM conversation.
- Orange Cloud interview. 30 min behavioral on the behaviors Cloudflare values (the official careers page places the Orange Cloud Interview inside step 3, Executive Calls). Questions on mistakes, learning outside work, fun or challenging situations.
- Executive calls and in-person step. Senior leadership conversation on vision and values; some loops add a C-suite or co-founder call. 2027 intern posting: applicants who reach the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a Cloudflare office or hub.
- Offer. Official careers page: Cloudflare says it moves quickly once it finds the right person.
Intern¶
- Application. Apply on the Early Talent job board (cloudflare.com/careers/jobs/?department=Early+Talent). For the 2026 cycle Cloudflare announced a goal of 1,111 interns across Austin, NYC, SF, Bengaluru, Lisbon and London, said it would post more 2026 roles from Oct 15, 2025 and review applications in batches. It also said it would fast-track review of Software Engineering intern applicants who build an AI-powered application on Cloudflare and submit it with the application (the blog links to agents.cloudflare.com). The 2027 Austin SWE intern posting went live Sep 16, 2026 and hires on a rolling basis.
- Screen. US (Nov 2025 report): 30 min hiring manager call, resume plus behavioral; no OA. Canada (Nov 2025 report): HackerRank technical screen first.
- Technical round. US: 1 hr backend pair programming, build a simple task scheduler, then discuss how to scale it, handle disconnections and keep metadata fresh (rounds 2 weeks apart). Canada: live LeetCode-style coding with an engineer, explaining your thinking. A Data Engineer intern candidate (Feb 2026 post) was scheduled for a 1 hr technical round and did not know whether it would be SQL, DSA or design.
- Timeline and final step. Cloudflare's Sep 2025 blog says its intern interview process takes 3 to 4 weeks and internships generally last 12 weeks. Offer-stage candidates may be asked for an in-person interview at an office or hub (2027 posting).
With 1 to 3 years of experience¶
1 to 3 yrs and mid-level loops look like the full-time loop above and lean harder on system design: a 2025 mid-level candidate passed coding (Design Hit Counter) but got a no-hire on system design (move logs from edge data centers in NYC, LA, SEA to a core DC with 1 min avg / 15 min max latency, encryption at rest and in transit, on-prem with no AWS/GCP) and was rejected. The project retrospective round marks you down if you cannot show scale. Senior India loops (Mar 2026) added a 90 min code review / debugging round, a senior leadership round entirely about how you use GenAI and coding agents, and a C-suite round. Expect more conversations than a FAANG loop (one Austin 2026 loop had HM, coding, Orange Cloud, debugging, system design, PM, second HM with AI-assisted coding, exec call, office tour).
Online assessment¶
- Platform: HackerRank (only some tracks)
- Format: Not standardized. Canada SWE intern (Nov 2025): HackerRank technical screen before live coding. US SWE intern (Nov 2025): no OA, HM call then pair programming. Full-time: usually a live TPS instead of an OA.
- Notes: PracHub guide notes some environments make you parse stdin and format output yourself (HackerRank style); ask the recruiter about format and language.
Prepare with How to pass an OA and compare formats in OA formats by company.
Coding rounds¶
- Rounds: 1 TPS + 1 to 2 coding rounds in the panel (plus app coding for frontend roles).
- Style: Practical and infrastructure-flavored more than puzzle-style: rate limiter (global, per path, per user, per tenant), Design Hit Counter, Design Circular Queue, LRU cache, task scheduler, encrypted key-value store, log parsing; some LeetCode medium (3Sum, 4Sum). Execution speed matters.
- Environment: Live pair programming; app rounds run in your local setup (install npm, nvm, React beforehand) with a provided repo. Google and docs allowed. AI policy varies by team: not allowed in a Dec 2025 React round; allowed with interviewer OK for crypto helpers in an Oct 2025 KV-store round; an Austin 2026 loop included an AI-assisted bug-fix round in an unfamiliar project.
- Graded on: Working, complete code within time, handling extensions, scaling discussion (disconnections, state, freshness), communication, and judgment on trade-offs.
- Reported focus topics: Rate limiting (fixed window, sliding window, token bucket) and per-key state, Design Hit Counter, Logger Rate Limiter, Design Circular Queue, LRU Cache, Queues, schedulers and concurrency basics, Distributed systems: log pipelines, edge vs core, replication, encryption at rest and in transit, Networking fundamentals: DNS, HTTP status codes, TCP vs UDP, TLS, Practical coding speed in your strongest language (Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++ are Cloudflare stack languages), React + TypeScript for frontend or full-stack roles, Cloudflare Workers and the developer platform
Run every practice problem through the 45-minute framework and the code quality rubric.
What they ask (data)¶
Based on 3 distinct problems tagged to Cloudflare in the last 6 months (0 in the last 30 days, 0 in the last 3 months, 11 all-time) across two open datasets of LeetCode company tags. Tags are user-reported, so treat frequency as a signal, not a promise.
Difficulty mix (last 6 months): Medium 67%, Hard 33%
Most tagged topics (share of problems): Linked List 67%, Array 33%, Design 33%, Queue 33%, Divide and Conquer 33%, Heap (Priority Queue) 33%, Merge Sort 33%, Tournament Sort 33%, Depth-First Search 33%, Breadth-First Search 33%
Watch out: Cloudflare has thin LeetCode data. Weight the reported questions and the format notes above more than this list.
Most frequent problems¶
Ranked by frequency, weighted toward the last 30 days. Classics like Two Sum sit near the top of almost every company's list because users tag them everywhere. Solve those fast. The signature list below is more specific to this company.
| # | Problem | Difficulty | Last seen | Topics |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Design Circular Queue | Medium | 6 months | Array, Linked List, Design, Queue |
| 2 | Merge k Sorted Lists | Hard | 6 months | Linked List, Divide and Conquer, Heap (Priority Queue), Merge Sort |
| 3 | Course Schedule | Medium | 6 months | Depth-First Search, Breadth-First Search, Graph Theory, Topological Sort |

Beyond LeetCode¶
Practical app coding in a prepared repo (React + TypeScript, mock UI and API, 4 tasks in 60 min); project retrospective (architecture deep dive judged on scale); debugging and code review round (review a snippet, then debug distributed performance); PM conversation; executive and co-founder calls; AI-assisted bug fixing in an unfamiliar codebase; language-specific TPS (JavaScript without loops). Intern fast track announced for the 2026 cycle: build an AI-powered application on Cloudflare and submit it with the application.
System design¶
Interns: a scaling discussion attached to the pair-programming task (how to scale the scheduler, handle disconnections). New grad / early career: may get a design round that is a deep dive on your own resume project. Mid-level and up: full system design round. Reported topics: edge-to-core encrypted log collection with SLAs, on-prem; rule-based rate limiting gateway; distributed system that pings HTTP endpoints on a schedule; batch pipeline that summarizes support tickets with a third-party LLM plus rate limiting; Design Twitter; global caching. PracHub guide also lists networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP vs UDP, TLS, 429 vs 500).
Start with who needs system design, then the framework.

Tips¶
- Build and ship something on Cloudflare Workers or the Agents SDK before you apply; for the 2026 intern cycle Cloudflare said it would fast-track SWE applicants who submit an AI-powered app built on Cloudflare, and intern postings list developer-platform experience as a bonus.
- If you are a US student (18+) with a .edu email, use Cloudflare for Students: the USD 5/month Workers Paid fee is waived for 12 months (a card on file is required).
- Prepare to name Cloudflare products you have used and why; recruiters ask this in the first screen.
- Write 5 to 6 Orange Cloud stories mapped to the six capabilities (curiosity, clear communication, doing the right thing, diversity, finishing work, empathy).
- Train for speed on practical tasks: one 2025 candidate finished 2 of 4 app tasks and was rejected despite a strong design round.
- Practice system design without managed cloud services; one interviewer required an on-prem design with no AWS or GCP.
- Apply in the first batch: 2026-cycle intern postings opened Oct 15, 2025 and the 2027 Austin SWE intern posting has been live since Sep 16, 2026.
- Plan for an in-person interview at an office or hub if you reach the offer stage.
4-week plan for Cloudflare¶
Do this after you finish a core list like Grind 75 or NeetCode 150.
- Week 1: Solve problems 1 to 20 from the most frequent list. Time-box each at 30 minutes.
- Week 2: Solve problems 21 to 40. Re-solve any you failed in week 1 without looking.
- Week 3: Solve problems 41 to 50 and every reported question above. Do 2 timed mock interviews.
- Week 4: Write 8 stories for the Orange Cloud Interview, scored against Cloudflare's capabilities (values) round. Do 2 full mock loops. Review the online assessment and system design notes above.

Watch out: Cloudflare publishes a generic 5-step hiring process but no separate new grad loop, so new grad details are inferred from intern and early-career full-time reports. Intern loops differ by country (US: HM call + pair programming, no OA; Canada: HackerRank first). Free sources have few 2025 to 2026 intern question details; 1point3acres lists 2025 to 2026 intern thread titles (SDE Intern tech phone screen Jun 2025, SWE Intern HR screen Dec 2025, SWE Intern Austin Jan 2026, System Software Engineer Intern follow-up Feb 2026); thread content is gated and curl gets HTTP 403, so titles were read with WebFetch on Oct 4, 2026. AI policy differs by team and round. The 1,111-intern goal and the AI-app fast track were announced for the 2026 cycle (the blog says 'an AI-powered application on Cloudflare' and links to agents.cloudflare.com; it does not name the Agents SDK); the 2027 Austin posting does not repeat the fast track, so confirm before relying on it. The 2027 posting also says offers may depend on authorization to receive US export-controlled technology without an export license, which can matter for some nationalities. Levels.fyi level names (L1 to L4) are crowdsourced, not official. interview_prep_url points to the careers page because its hiring-process section is the only official process description. Company-tagged LeetCode lists (Design Circular Queue, Reaching Points, Design a Stack With Increment Operation, 3Sum, 4Sum, LRU Cache, Design Hit Counter, Logger Rate Limiter) are frequency data, not dated reports. Verification (Oct 4, 2026): every URL in sources was fetched and confirmed [VERIFIED]; LeetCode Discuss posts were read through LeetCode GraphQL API because their HTML returns 403 to scripts. Source notes: https://www.cloudflare.com/careers/ (six capabilities and 5-step hiring process incl. Orange Cloud Interview); https://www.cloudflare.com/careers/life-at-cloudflare/ (loads); https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-1111-intern-program/ (Sep 22, 2025, Dane Knecht); https://blog.cloudflare.com/tag/internship-experience/ (loads); https://agents.cloudflare.com/ (loads); https://www.cloudflare.com/students/ (Cloudflare for Students); https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/cloudflare/jobs/8199958 (Software Engineer Intern (2027) Austin, first published Sep 16, 2026); https://www.1point3acres.com/interview/company/cloudflare (thread titles only, details paywalled); https://github.com/liquidslr/leetcode-company-wise-problems/tree/main/Cloudflare (repo 31,048 stars, last push 2026-08-16); https://github.com/snehasishroy/leetcode-companywise-interview-questions/tree/master/cloudflare (repo 8,233 stars, last push 2026-08-21). Fact-check pass (Oct 4, 2026): all URLs re-fetched (HTTP 200 except 1point3acres, read via WebFetch; LeetCode posts and problem slugs re-checked through the GraphQL API). Corrected: the Dec 2025 PracHub first round was a hiring manager call (not HR); the rate limiter question page was published Jan 22, 2026 (Jun 2026 was its last update); RSU vesting is 1-year cliff then quarterly; the Orange Cloud Interview sits inside the official Executive Calls step; the '10 days' figure is availability requested, not a scheduling guarantee; experience levels added to roles (several 'new grad' process details come from 4 to 8 yrs candidates). Process cross-checked against the official careers page, the PracHub 2026 guide, Taro intern reports and 2025 to 2026 LeetCode Discuss posts.
