Interview process

New grad

  1. Application. Official: a real person in Talent Acquisition reviews applications; expect an update within a couple of weeks. Early-career full-time roles are filtered as 'Early Career' on the jobs site; multiple applications and re-applying in later years are allowed.
  2. Online assessment. HackerRank. India ASE (2024): 90 min, 2 questions (rolling strings similar to Shifting Letters II, plus a hard 'wave array'). Other reports: 3 problems at LeetCode medium, medium, hard (2025 ASE intern) and a hard geometry problem (Jan 2025). A 2024 US post mentions a HackerRank interview for a 0 to 2 YOE Seattle-area SWE role.
  3. Technical rounds (2 to 3). Live coding in a shared editor or online compiler, with interviewer edge cases; one 2024 ASE candidate was asked to submit on LeetCode. Associate SWE (Oct 2025, 10 months exp): four problems in one round (Find the Duplicate Number with Floyd, Single Number, Linked List Cycle II, multi-source BFS zombie grid). DBMS questions (concurrent ticket booking) appear for new grads.
  4. Technical + managerial. Projects, interests, tech stack, scenario questions; official process says interviews may include coding assessments or presentations depending on the role.
  5. Decision. Hiring team debriefs, then notifies you (official). No hiring committee or team match stage reported; hiring is per team.

Intern

  1. US loop (Summer 2025 cycle, interviewed Oct to Dec 2024). Recruiter screen (why ServiceNow, why this role), then three 30-minute virtual interviews on one afternoon: (1) senior engineering manager: high-level design, CAP theorem, behavioral, projects; (2) staff engineer: one LeetCode medium on strings and hash maps, projects; (3) senior staff engineer: one LeetCode medium sliding window, Docker and Kubernetes, projects. Results came late; the candidate accepted another offer first.
  2. US 2026 intern variant. A 'UTG Summer SWE intern' candidate (Oct 2025) had a behavioral/technical discussion followed by a 45-minute technical coding interview.
  3. India intern (campus / off-campus). HackerRank OA (3 problems, medium/medium/hard; or 60 min with arrays, trees and one hard), then 2 to 3 technical rounds (a Dec 2025 intern candidate had 2 technical + 1 HR interview scheduled): resume, AVL trees, reverse segments of a linked list, Kadane variant, min path sum grid variant with follow-ups, a string problem, math puzzles or estimates (golf balls in a bus). Code is run on an online compiler with interviewer edge cases. QA and ML intern tracks get Selenium, SQL, Jenkins, SDLC and prompt-engineering sections.
  4. Return offer. Official: interns are offered either a post-graduation job or a return internship. India: 2-month interns at Rs 89K/month with full-time conversion reported (Jan 2026 post: Rs 44 lakh CTC conversion).

With 1 to 3 years of experience

IC2 (2 to 5 yrs), mostly Hyderabad data: recruiter phone screen, HackerRank OA (medium; strings, binary search), R1 DSA (15 min resume + 45 min for 2 problems), R2 DSA plus Java or JavaScript concepts or a basic HLD, R3 hiring manager (behavioral, situation questions, a DSA variation, an HLD), sometimes extra rounds for a new team (DB schema design + DSA). UI/front-end teams test JavaScript deeply (closures, promises, call/apply/bind, hoisting, React hooks, deep flatten); one Oct 2025 front-end IC2 loop added schema design plus a query on it, lazy loading and performance optimization. Reports of paused hiring, positions filled mid-loop and recruiter ghosting are frequent (2025 to 2026).

Online assessment

  • Platform: HackerRank.
  • Format: 2 to 3 coding problems in 60 to 90 min (90 min / 2 questions in 2024 ASE; 3 problems M/M/H in 2025 ASE intern; 60 min / 3 problems in a 2026 intern report). QA intern OA (Nov 2025): DSA (HashMap scheduling), Selenium + Java automation, SDLC MCQs, 3-table SQL join with GROUP BY, Jenkins MCQs, and a prompt-engineering task (mask private data in emails, 8 test cases).
  • Notes: Hard outliers exist (Jan 2025: minimum time in the dark between circular streetlights). Official policy: complete tests and challenges without AI unless told otherwise.

Coding rounds

  • Rounds: 2 to 3 coding rounds for new grads and IC2; US interns had two 30-min problem-solving rounds.
  • Style: LeetCode easy to medium with some hard (Split Array Largest Sum, Count Palindromic Subsequences variant, First Missing Positive); linked lists and arrays are frequent; JavaScript-specific coding for UI teams (T9 decoding, deep flatten and group by type).
  • Environment: Shared editor or online compiler with run; interviewers supply edge cases; some ask for LeetCode submission.
  • Graded on: Working code, optimal complexity (O(n) time / O(1) space asked explicitly), edge cases, debugging ability (an HM-round candidate had to find and fix a TypeError hit while coding), clear explanation.
  • Reported focus topics: Linked lists: cycle detection, reverse segments, remove nth node, merge, Arrays: Kadane, first missing positive, jump game, majority element, Stacks: remove k digits, next greater element, valid parentheses, Sliding window and hash maps on strings, Binary search on answer: split array largest sum, DP on grids and subsequences, Graphs: multi-source BFS, modified Dijkstra, Tries: autocomplete, JavaScript fundamentals and React hooks (UI teams), Java OOP concepts, Basic HLD, CAP theorem, DB schema design

Run every practice problem through the 45-minute framework and the code quality rubric.

What they ask (data)

Based on 1 distinct problems tagged to ServiceNow in the last 6 months (0 in the last 30 days, 1 in the last 3 months, 73 all-time) across two open datasets of LeetCode company tags. Tags are user-reported, so treat frequency as a signal, not a promise.

Difficulty mix (last 6 months): Hard 100%

Most tagged topics (share of problems): Array 100%, Hash Table 100%, String 100%, Dynamic Programming 100%, Backtracking 100%, Trie 100%, Memoization 100%

Watch out: ServiceNow has thin LeetCode data. Weight the reported questions and the format notes above more than this list.

Beyond LeetCode

JavaScript practical coding for UI roles (deep flatten a nested array and group by typeof with frequency counts, then debug a live TypeError; T9 keypad decoding; palindrome number without reverse). Java/JS concept Q&A (interface vs abstract class after Java 8, promises, useEffect/useMemo, closures). QA/ML intern tracks: Selenium, Jenkins, SDLC, SQL and prompt-engineering tasks. ServiceNow platform development (workflows, business rules) is listed as a plus in IC2 postings; ServiceNow University offers free courses.

System design

Interns (US) get a short HLD discussion with CAP theorem in a 30-min round. IC1/IC2 get one basic HLD or DB schema design (database for entities with multiple stages and repeated attempts; Design Instagram for a 4.5 YOE IC2; how to handle two users booking the same ticket). Docker and Kubernetes questions appeared for a US intern. No machine coding round reported.

Start with who needs system design, then the framework.

Behavioral

Framework: ServiceNow values (shown as a graphic on the Life at ServiceNow page; text read from the image): Wow our customers, Win as a team, Create belonging, Stay hungry and humble. People Pact commitments: 'Fulfill our purpose together', 'Do your best work', 'Live your best life'. The official How we hire page lists 'alignment with company values and purpose' as an evaluation point. (official page)

What they look for:

  • Skills and transferable experience (official How we hire)
  • Desire and ambition (official)
  • Alignment with company values and purpose (official)
  • Problem-solving approach and potential to thrive (official)
  • Authentic, independent work: no AI during evaluation unless allowed (official)

Questions to prepare:

  • Why ServiceNow, why this role, and what do you bring to it? (US intern recruiter screen)
  • Walk me through your projects. (asked in every US intern round)
  • Situation-based questions about past work and conflicts (IC2 HM round)
  • Why are you looking to switch?

Build your answers with the story bank. Company detail: behavioral guide.

Tips

  • Have a 2-minute project pitch ready: in the US intern loop every 30-min interviewer asked about projects, which leaves about 15 to 20 minutes for the actual problem.
  • Revise systems basics even as an intern: CAP theorem, Docker and Kubernetes came up in the 2024 US intern loop.
  • Drill linked lists: cycle start (Floyd), reversing segments and removing the nth node appear across intern, IC1 and IC2 reports.
  • If your resume lists JavaScript or React, prepare closures, promises, call/apply/bind, hoisting, useEffect/useMemo and a deep-flatten exercise; Hyderabad UI teams test them hands-on.
  • Make your code run: interviewers feed edge cases into an online compiler and some ask for a LeetCode submission.
  • Do not use AI during any test or interview unless the recruiter says so; ServiceNow's How we hire page requires independent completion.
  • Interns get either a return internship or a full-time offer (official), so treat the internship as the main new grad path.
  • Take a free ServiceNow University course if you target platform teams: IC2 postings list ServiceNow platform experience as a plus.

4-week plan for ServiceNow

Do this after you finish a core list like Grind 75 or NeetCode 150.

  • Week 1: Solve problems 1 to 20 from the most frequent list. Time-box each at 30 minutes.
  • Week 2: Solve problems 21 to 40. Re-solve any you failed in week 1 without looking.
  • Week 3: Solve the signature problems and every reported question above. Do 2 timed mock interviews.
  • Week 4: Write 8 stories for the ServiceNow values (shown as a graphic on the Life at ServiceNow page; text read from the image): Wow our customers, Win as a team, Create belonging, Stay hungry and humble. People Pact commitments: 'Fulfill our purpose together', 'Do your best work', 'Live your best life'. The official How we hire page lists 'alignment with company values and purpose' as an evaluation point. round. Do 2 full mock loops. Review the online assessment and system design notes above.

Watch out: Most 2025 to 2026 reports are India (Hyderabad) IC1/IC2 and India intern drives; US data is one detailed Summer 2025 intern loop (interviews Nov 2024, posted Oct 2026) and one short Oct 2025 intern post. ServiceNow values (Wow our customers, Win as a team, Create belonging, Stay hungry and humble) are now VERIFIED by reading the text in the values graphic (final_values_2025_all.svg) on the official Life at ServiceNow page. The 'UTG' intern program name appears only in a candidate post. ServiceNow's LeetCode-tagged list (liquidslr) has almost no recent entries, so frequency data is weak. Reddit, Glassdoor and Blind could not be fetched in this session. LeetCode Discuss pages were read through LeetCode's GraphQL API because the HTML pages block automated fetches. Fact-check Oct 4, 2026: all LeetCode Discuss sources re-read via the GraphQL API; careers.servicenow.com returns 403 to plain curl but loads in a browser and WebFetch; job postings checked through the SmartRecruiters public API.
