Category Big Tech
Intern level Software Engineer Intern (US summer; India 12-week summer internship that converts to PPO). Official FAQ: interns must return to school afterwards; applications generally open in late summer.
New grad level IC2 Software Engineer (Levels.fyi: traditional new grads enter at the second SWE level; IC1 'Apprentice Software Engineer' is the apprenticeship track for non-traditional backgrounds). India campus/PPO offers are titled Software Engineer, Systems and Infra Engineer, or Application Developer SWE.
0 to 3 years IC2 Software Engineer for roughly 0 to 4 yrs (US 'Software Engineer' postings ask 1+ yrs industry experience; India IC2 loops reported at 2.4 to 4 yrs). IC3 Senior Software Engineer usually 5+ yrs (a 4-YOE candidate was told SSE was not offered under 5 yrs).
Online assessment Not consistently named in reports. India campus/intern hiring uses an online test; US and experienced candidates go straight to a CoderPad phone screen. : India intern/new grad: 2 to 3 DSA problems in about 90 min (one hard).
Coding rounds Phone screen (1 to 2 problems) plus 2 onsite DSA rounds (2 problems each, 60 min) plus, in some 2026 loops, 1 AI-enabled coding round.
Behavioral LinkedIn shared values, assessed mainly in the Host Manager round and the Technical Communication round: members first; trust and care about each other; open, honest and constructive; act as One LinkedIn; diversity, inclusion and belonging. The same official page describes the culture as dreaming big, getting things done and knowing how to have fun (interviewing.io lists this as a sixth value).
Timeline India: results 1 to 2 days after each stage once past the TPS (Dec 2025 report); US Staff report: about 5 weeks phone screen to offer. Team match follows the loop; 'select but no headcount' can wait weeks, with results valid about a year. Cool-off: 1 year after an onsite reject (Dec 2025 report); a recruiter told a 2024 candidate to retry after 6 months. Internship applications open in late summer (official). India campus and PPO offer reports are posted Aug to Feb (PPOs Aug to Sep; NIT Warangal on-campus offers posted Feb 2026).
New grad pay Levels.fyi (data as of Oct 4, 2026): US IC2 Software Engineer median TC about $250K (base $173K, stock $62K/yr, bonus $14K); this blends new grads with multi-year IC2s, so new-grad offers sit below it. Official US 'Software Engineer' (1+ yrs) postings, Sep 2026: base $108,900 to $147,400 (Applications, Mountain View) and $120,000 to $195,000 (Systems and Infrastructure). India: Levels.fyi IC2 median about INR 61.7L TC (base INR 38.8L). Reported India fresher offers: 2025 PPO base INR 22.75L (non-infra) to 25.8L (infra) plus $75K to $100K Microsoft RSUs over 4 yrs; NIT Warangal on-campus Feb 2026 base INR 25L to 27L plus INR 7L joining bonus plus $81K to $113K RSUs; 2026 PPO base INR 38L plus $100K RSUs. Stock is Microsoft RSUs, 25% after year 1 then quarterly.

Interview process

New grad

  1. Application or recruiter outreach. Easy Apply on LinkedIn Jobs, referral, or recruiter InMail. Official 4-stage flow: Application, Conversation (recruiter screen, possibly HM video call), Interview (multiple team members, each on a different competency), Decision (can take several weeks). Official entry-level page lists the teams that hire entry-level engineers (Developer Productivity, Frontend (UI), Site Reliability, Systems and Infrastructure, Data Science, Productivity Engineering, InfoSec); LinkedIn Engineering's official videos describe separate technical screens for the Applications, AI/ML, Front End UI, SRE, iOS and Android tracks.
  2. Recruiter call. About 30 min: background, motivation, walkthrough of the loop. Some recruiters explain the full structure in advance.
  3. Technical phone screen (TPS). 60 min on CoderPad, often two interviewers (primary plus shadow). 10 to 30 min of resume/project talk or CS fundamentals (Infra: process vs thread, virtual memory, DB normalization, implement a hashmap), then 1 to 2 coding problems: an easy warm-up plus a medium. Applications screens reuse LinkedIn-flavored prompts (config-file parentheses validator, KNOWN_WORDS phone keypad, seat people like Can Place Flowers, Bulb Switcher). Infra screens favor Nested List Weight Sum II with 3 to 4 follow-ups. Some interviewers say the first 'smoke test' question is not graded.
  4. Onsite loop (virtual or in-person, 4 to 6 rounds of 60 min). Coding 1 and Coding 2: usually 2 DSA problems each, medium to hard, many from the LinkedIn tag. AI-enabled coding (added late 2025 to 2026 in some loops): CoderPad with a built-in AI assistant, a multi-part problem (LRU with counters plus cache hit/miss ratio, interval scheduling, social-graph methods). Software Design and Architecture: HLD with LLD depth. Technical Communication: present and defend a past project. Host Manager (hiring manager): behavioral, project walkthrough, a hypothetical scenario.
  5. Decision and team match. Feedback reviewed together; borderline candidates may get an extra interview (interviewing.io). A 'select' can be parked for lack of headcount; results reported as valid for about a year, followed by a 30-min team-fit call when a team opens (Oct 2025 to Jan 2026 reports).

Intern

  1. Online assessment (India data). Summer 2025 Bangalore intern: 3 DSA questions in 90 min (2 medium, 1 hard, LeetCode plus competitive-programming style). Aug 2025 on-campus OA: 2 questions (binary search on answer; max subarray sum with length at most k). Aug 2026 OA for 2027/2028 grads (intern plus SWE): graph problem (cheapest round trip to any city's concert, solvable with multi-source Dijkstra). An off-campus summer-intern OA was also reported on Aug 31, 2025. Platform not named in reports.
  2. Technical interview. 60 min, straight into 2 LeetCode mediums (both DP in the 2024 report). Explain approach, code, complexity.
  3. Host manager round. About 45 min with an engineering manager: behavioral plus detailed walkthrough of one real project and LinkedIn tech culture. Offer came the next day in the 2024 report.
  4. US interns. No public 2025 to 2026 US intern interview reports found. Official FAQ: applications generally open in late summer; you must return to an education program after the internship. No LinkedIn SWE intern posting surfaced in a LinkedIn Jobs search on Oct 4, 2026.

With 1 to 3 years of experience

1 to 3 yrs: same IC2 loop as new grads (phone screen, then 2 coding, design, technical communication, host manager, sometimes an AI-enabled coding round). Track changes content: Systems and Infra adds OS/DB/concurrency questions and thread-safety follow-ups (Max Stack made multithreaded); AI/ML SWE adds ML theory, an AI coding round, and ML system design (feed second-pass ranker); Frontend adds JavaScript I/O questions, a vanilla-JS feature build, 'Pragmatic UI', design Google Sheets in vanilla JS, and a 'Product and Technical Taste' round with a PM. The HM probes on-call, ownership, why you are leaving, and asks you to run a hypothetical project end to end. Recruiters said every round must go well at this level (AI Engineer report, Dec 2025).

Online assessment

  • Platform: Not consistently named in reports. India campus/intern hiring uses an online test; US and experienced candidates go straight to a CoderPad phone screen.
  • Format: India intern/new grad: 2 to 3 DSA problems in about 90 min (one hard).
  • Notes: Recent OA topics: weighted-graph shortest paths (round-trip concert cost, solvable with multi-source Dijkstra; Aug 2026), binary search on answer and bounded-length max subarray (Aug 2025), DP. Expect competitive-programming flavor in India OAs.

Prepare with How to pass an OA and compare formats in OA formats by company.

Coding rounds

  • Rounds: Phone screen (1 to 2 problems) plus 2 onsite DSA rounds (2 problems each, 60 min) plus, in some 2026 loops, 1 AI-enabled coding round.
  • Style: LeetCode medium with frequent hards from the LinkedIn tag, many Premium-only (Nested List Weight Sum II, Find the Celebrity, Max Stack, Closest BST Value II, Find Leaves). Prompts are reworded with LinkedIn context (config validators, KNOWN_WORDS keypad) and carry 2 to 4 follow-ups.
  • Environment: CoderPad for screens and onsites; some candidates could not run code against tests. AI-enabled round: CoderPad with an AI assistant (one candidate used Claude inside it; another reported the AI hanging for minutes). One in-person onsite asked candidates to bring a personal laptop (Nov 2025). Official policy: no AI in live interviews unless the recruiting team says AI is part of the format.
  • Graded on: Optimal solution, correct compiling code, edge cases, dry run, and handling every follow-up. Reported reject reasons: wrong binary search bounds and C++ syntax slips on an easy screen; not reaching the precomputation follow-up on the keypad problem. AI round: quality of prompting, verifying AI output, and optimality. interviewing.io describes a 4-point scale per round with 3 as passing.
  • Reported focus topics: Trees and BSTs (Closest BST Value II, Find Leaves, Binary Tree Upside Down, Symmetric Tree), Graphs: BFS/DFS grids and Dijkstra (Number of Islands variants, Minimum Knight Moves, Word Ladder, hidden grid), Design-a-data-structure (Max Stack, All O(1), RandomizedCollection, LRU/LFU variants), Sliding window with circular follow-ups (Max Consecutive Ones III), Math and geometry (Bulb Switcher, Max Points on a Line), Backtracking plus Trie (keypad KNOWN_WORDS), DP (Paint House, Longest Palindromic Subsequence), Heaps (Find K Pairs with Smallest Sums), Nested structures (Nested List Weight Sum I and II), System design: calendar, metrics/monitoring, top-K, search index

Run every practice problem through the 45-minute framework and the code quality rubric.

Beyond LeetCode

Technical Communication round (60-min detailed walkthrough or presentation of one past project, sometimes framed as explaining it to a new intern). AI-enabled coding round (multi-part implementation with an AI assistant; graded on prompting, verification, optimality). Infra screens include CS fundamentals (virtual memory, processes vs threads, hashmap internals). Frontend loops: JavaScript I/O, polyfills, vanilla-JS feature build, 'Pragmatic UI', design Google Sheets without frameworks, PM-led 'Product and Technical Taste'. AI/ML loops: ML theory (attention), ML fundamentals, ML system design. Official LinkedIn Engineering 'Interview Prep' YouTube playlist explains the Applications, AI, Front End UI, SRE, iOS and Android technical screens.

System design

Appears for IC2 (0 to 3 yrs) as a full 60-min 'Software Design and Architecture' round, HLD with LLD depth. Reported prompts: Design Google Calendar or a calendar (Sep 2026, Apr 2026, Jul 2025, May 2025), metrics collection and querying or monitoring with alerts (Mar 2026, Feb 2026, Dec 2025, Nov 2025, plus a Bay Area IC2 loop in Oct 2025), Top-K YouTube variant (Mar 2026), inverted index over a stream of posts (Dec 2025), scale a single-node KV store to 1M QPS (Aug 2026), fast KV store with LLD focus (Jan 2026), LinkedIn post and comment with analytics (Jul 2025). A below-average design rating alone caused a reject (Apr 2026). India intern loops have no design round.

Start with who needs system design, then the framework.

Behavioral

Framework: LinkedIn shared values, assessed mainly in the Host Manager round and the Technical Communication round: members first; trust and care about each other; open, honest and constructive; act as One LinkedIn; diversity, inclusion and belonging. The same official page describes the culture as dreaming big, getting things done and knowing how to have fun (interviewing.io lists this as a sixth value). (official page)

What they look for:

  • End-to-end ownership of a real project you can defend for 60 minutes
  • Trade-off reasoning and what you would change in hindsight
  • Clear explanation to a non-expert (explain your project to a new intern)
  • On-call and incident handling
  • Cross-team collaboration and how you approach ambiguity (which teams you would involve, POCs)
  • Product sense (Frontend 'Product and Technical Taste' round)

Questions to prepare:

  • Why LinkedIn? Why are you leaving your current company?
  • What does on-call look like in your current team?
  • Give two positives and two negatives about your manager.
  • How do you handle context switching and resolve conflicts?
  • How do you handle pressure and difficult situations?
  • Explain one of your projects to a new intern.
  • Here is an ambiguous problem: which teams would you reach out to and how would you structure POCs?
  • Tell me about a project you are proud of and its hardest part.

Build your answers with the story bank. Company detail: behavioral guide.

Tips

  • Work through the LinkedIn company tag on LeetCode; many repeat problems are Premium-only (Nested List Weight Sum II, Find the Celebrity, Max Stack, Closest BST Value II, Find Leaves), so one month of Premium before the loop pays off.
  • Make easy screen questions flawless: 2025 to 2026 rejects came from off-by-one binary search, syntax slips, and missing the precomputation follow-up on the keypad problem.
  • Practice the KNOWN_WORDS keypad problem with a Trie plus add/remove follow-ups; it recurs across Applications screens from mid-2025 to 2026.
  • Pick your track on purpose: Systems and Infra screens add OS, DB and concurrency fundamentals; Applications screens lean on LinkedIn-flavored easy/medium prompts.
  • Prepare one project for the 60-min Technical Communication round: architecture diagram, each decision and its trade-off, what you would change, and an explanation simple enough for a new intern.
  • Rehearse AI-assisted coding: steer the assistant, test and verify its output, and push for the optimal solution. Use AI only when the recruiter says the round allows it.
  • Study system design even at IC2: Google Calendar and metrics/monitoring are the most repeated prompts, and a weak design round alone can sink the loop.
  • Ask the recruiter which rounds you have (AI-enabled coding or not, Applications vs Infra) and whether the first screen question is graded.

4-week plan for LinkedIn

Do this after you finish a core list like Grind 75 or NeetCode 150.

  • Week 1: Solve problems 1 to 20 from the most frequent list. Time-box each at 30 minutes.
  • Week 2: Solve problems 21 to 40. Re-solve any you failed in week 1 without looking.
  • Week 3: Solve the signature problems and every reported question above. Do 2 timed mock interviews.
  • Week 4: Write 8 stories for the LinkedIn shared values, assessed mainly in the Host Manager round and the Technical Communication round: members first; trust and care about each other; open, honest and constructive; act as One LinkedIn; diversity, inclusion and belonging. The same official page describes the culture as dreaming big, getting things done and knowing how to have fun (interviewing.io lists this as a sixth value). round. Do 2 full mock loops. Review the online assessment and system design notes above.

Watch out: Most 2025 to 2026 interview reports are India-based (Bangalore) or experienced hires. A few US IC2 reports are public (Bay Area loop Oct 2025, USA loop Dec 2025, Bay Area phone screen Jan 2026), but none from self-identified US new grads or US interns, so US new-grad and intern loops are inferred from IC2 loops. US 'Software Engineer' postings in Sep 2026 ask for 1+ yrs, so true US new-grad openings may be limited or posted separately. The AI-enabled coding round is new and appears in some loops only; interviewing.io's page (2024 era) still says AI use is prohibited, which LinkedIn's own AI-usage page now qualifies (allowed only when the recruiting team says so). The 4-point rubric and hiring-committee description come from interviewing.io, not LinkedIn. India comp varies widely by team (Infra vs non-Infra) and year; the INR 38L 2026 PPO base is a single report. The official entry-level page lists an 'Associate Product Builder (APB)' program, but its detail link redirects to linkedincareers.info and its content was not readable: [UNVERIFIED] program details. All LeetCode discuss posts were read in full via LeetCode's API on Oct 4, 2026; self-reported verdicts are unverified. Fact-check pass (Oct 4, 2026): every URL re-fetched (careers pages, both LinkedIn job posts, Levels.fyi page data, YouTube titles via oEmbed, all LeetCode posts via the GraphQL API, all problem slugs via the API). Fixes: Nested List Weight Sum report now points to LC 364 (reverse depth, as the post describes); 'choose a track' wording replaced with the official team list and official track videos; team-fit call dated Oct 2025 (SSE report). All other reported questions were found in their cited posts.
