Interview process

New grad

  1. Apply (Oracle careers portal). Apply to the Software Engineer Program (full-time) at jpmc.fa.oraclecloud.com. Official FAQ: applications reviewed on a rolling basis; JPMC cannot accelerate decisions for competing offers; focus on no more than 3 summer internship program applications (a recommendation, not a hard cap). Some campuses (India) run a student presentation then a 3 to 4 day application window.
  2. HackerRank online assessment. Usually 2 coding questions in about 60 minutes, video proctored in 2026 reports. Easy to medium but hidden test cases are strict; brute force passes samples and fails hidden cases. Reported 2026 topics: DSU/union-find, HashMap + heap design with lazy removal, greedy + bit manipulation, binary strings.
  3. HireVue recorded video interview. On-demand recorded behavioral interview (official FAQ describes on-demand recorded interviews). An April 2026 report (location not stated) calls it an AI-based interview with behavioral/HR questions and no technical question. Communication of your thought process matters; one 2025 candidate failed here despite knowing concepts.
  4. Final round: Superday or Code for Good. Superday: 3 to 4 back-to-back interviews (45 to 60 min) mixing a LeetCode-medium coding round, a 10 to 15 minute pull-request/code review where you find bugs and bad practices, a behavioral round, and sometimes a design question (April 2026 report: 'Design a Reliable Bank Payment System'). Code for Good: team hackathon building a tech solution for an assigned charity (2025 official rules: you sign up as an individual and JPMC forms the teams from the skills on your application); in India on-campus hiring it is the deciding final round after OA + HireVue (2026 dates: June 6, June 20, July 4 in an NIT on-campus intern cycle; Bengaluru Aug 22, 2026 in another India post).
  5. Offer and team placement. SEP is a 2-year program starting with an induction on JPMC businesses, engineering standards and tools, then agile teams in consumer, wholesale or corporate functions. Candidates report team matching after the offer; one April 2026 Superday candidate reported a '90 days in the pool' wait for team match.

Intern

  1. Apply. SEP Summer intern postings for Summer 2027 were live by Aug 20, 2026 (the Ascend list shows the posting with 9 locations). Six tracks: Full-Stack, Back-end, Front-end, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Developer, Site Reliability Engineer (official SEP intern page). The official intern page (as of Oct 2026) says teams are AI-enabled, interns use internal AI tools daily, and experience developing with AI tools and validating AI-generated output 'will set you apart'. Interns also do a cross-functional project for community partners.
  2. HackerRank OA. 2 questions, about 60 min. India 2028-batch on-campus OA (March 2026): minimum servers with power-of-2 capacities, and min flips to split a binary string into even-length same-char blocks. Described as easy to moderate, 'more about logic clarity than hardcore DSA'.
  3. HireVue video interview. Behavioral recorded interview, taken in the same week as the OA in the India 2026 cycle (OA March 25 to 26, HireVue March 25 to 29).
  4. Code for Good hackathon or Superday. In India on-campus internship hiring, Code for Good is the final round and tests teamwork and development skills. Elsewhere a Superday with coding, code review and behavioral rounds is reported. Top intern performers can convert to full-time (official SEP intern page).

With 1 to 3 years of experience

Experienced hires (1+ yrs) go through the official 'Experienced Software Engineer Hiring' cohort: Application, CodeScreen (online coding assessment), Recruiter Call, Super Day (three virtual interviews in one day), Decision, Team Match. 2025 to 2026 reports for SDE-2/SE II (2 to 4 yrs, mostly India; some posts do not state location): Superday = hiring manager/behavioral round, DSA + code review round (production PR review: hard-coded API keys, poor error handling), and a system design round (NoBroker-style property app, global file sharing platform, monolith to microservices). Java/Spring/AWS roles get deep Java questions (streams, concurrency, Spring, reactive). Down-leveling is common (SE3 offered as SE2 in Nov 2025 and July 2026 reports). Some candidates wait weeks for the next round or team match and receive automated rejection or '90 days waiting consideration' emails before an offer. An Aug 2026 PracHub report: a rehire was asked to design an AI chatbot in the behavioral round and to code LRU Cache in a plain text note (no IDE), even though the scheduling email said to set up a local environment. A July 2026 Bengaluru PracHub report describes an online screen of multiple-choice questions plus one coding problem in about two hours, then a technical phone screen and a panel.

Online assessment

  • Platform: HackerRank (video proctored in 2026 reports)
  • Format: 2 coding questions, about 60 minutes (60 to 90 per secondary guides). Medium difficulty for experienced cohort OAs. No MCQ section mentioned in 2026 reports.
  • Notes: Hidden test cases are strong; optimize past brute force. Some recent OA prompts are long, story-style (servers, modules, deployment difficulty). Official FAQ: many assessments cannot be retaken for a designated period. A Sept 2026 OA asked 'Maximize Minimum Deployment Difficulty' across 3 servers. Not every OA is pure coding: a July 2026 Bengaluru report describes MCQs plus one coding problem in about two hours.

Prepare with How to pass an OA and compare formats in OA formats by company.

Coding rounds

  • Rounds: New grad/intern: 1 live coding round at the Superday (or none if hired via Code for Good). Experienced: 1 DSA + code review round.
  • Style: LeetCode easy to medium (arrays, strings, hashing, two pointers, sliding window, stacks, linked lists). Problems often extended with new constraints mid-interview. Plus a PR/code review exercise. Java roles add Java/Spring trivia.
  • Environment: Virtual Superday (video) in most reports; some onsite Superdays (April 2026 PracHub report, location not stated, about 10 candidates present). Editor varies: an Aug 2026 candidate had to write code in a plain text note with no IDE, so practice writing clean code without autocomplete.
  • Graded on: Correct, optimal code with edge cases; ability to spot bugs and bad practices in code review; clear explanation (interviewers give hints).
  • Reported focus topics: arrays and strings, hash maps and anagram/grouping problems, two pointers and sliding window, stacks (valid parentheses, min stack), linked lists, graphs and union-find, heaps with lazy deletion, greedy and bit manipulation (OA), code review / PR review, OOP and Java fundamentals for Java roles (collections, streams, concurrency, Spring), SQL and database indexing, HLD for 2+ yrs (microservices, caching, file storage), behavioral STAR stories for HireVue

Run every practice problem through the 45-minute framework and the code quality rubric.

Beyond LeetCode

Code for Good hackathon (teams build a solution for an assigned charity; individuals apply and JPMC forms teams; official 2025 rules cover North America, Argentina, EMEA, India, Singapore, Hong Kong; final hiring round in India campus cycles). Pull-request / code review exercise (10 to 15 minutes, find multiple bugs and bad practices such as hard-coded keys and incorrect error handling). HireVue recorded video interview. Ambiguity coding (parse a date string of unknown format and separator) in Analyst rounds. Java/Spring/SQL fundamentals for Java roles. Separate from Code for Good, the official SEP page lists 'Force for Good' as an optional social-impact program during the 2-year program.

System design

New grad SEP: usually no dedicated system design round, but a design question can appear in the Superday (April 2026: 'Design a Reliable Bank Payment System'). 0 to 3 yrs (Analyst/Associate, SE II): expect an HLD round (property listing app with view/user/search services, global file sharing platform, monolith sales app to microservices with caching, API gateway, geo caching) and sometimes LLD (Delivery Partner app). Analyst-level (1.7 yrs) round included debugging a sudden page-load slowdown and DB indexing.

Start with who needs system design, then the framework.

Behavioral

Framework: Business Principles ('How we do business'), four tenets: exceptional client service; operational excellence; a commitment to integrity, fairness and responsibility; a great team and winning culture. Behavioral rounds and HireVue use STAR-style questions. (official page)

What they look for:

  • The whole person, not just a set of skills (official How we hire page)
  • A commitment to integrity, fairness and responsibility (Business Principles tenet)
  • Exceptional client service and operational excellence, the other Business Principles tenets (frame stories around customer impact and reliable delivery)
  • Teamwork and collaboration (Code for Good is a team hackathon)
  • Clear communication of your reasoning on recorded HireVue answers
  • Ownership of production code: quality, security, error handling (code review rounds)
  • Motivation for JPMC and for the specific team; why you are switching (experienced)

Questions to prepare:

  • Tell me about a conflict on a team and how you resolved it (cohort SE II, Jan 2026)
  • How would you introduce a new technology to your team, and how would you defend your idea if challenged? (cohort SE II, Jan 2026)
  • How do you collaborate with different teams? (SDE-3 Mumbai, May 2025)
  • How do you stay up to date with the latest technologies? (SDE-3 Mumbai, May 2025)
  • Why do you want to switch companies? Have you discussed it with your manager? (SDE II, Aug 2026)
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses? (Analyst Mumbai, Feb 2026)

Build your answers with the story bank. Company detail: behavioral guide.

Tips

  • Treat the HackerRank OA as the main filter: practice 2 mediums in 60 minutes and test edge cases, because hidden tests fail brute force.
  • Record yourself answering 5 STAR stories in 2 to 3 minutes each before HireVue; one 2025 candidate with good DSA was cut for unclear communication there.
  • Practice PR review: take a 100-line service, plant hard-coded secrets, swallowed exceptions and SRP violations, and find at least 5 issues in 10 minutes.
  • If you get Code for Good, prepare full-stack basics (a CRUD app, a simple frontend, git teamwork); it is the deciding round in India campus hiring.
  • Ask clarifying questions before coding; Analyst rounds deliberately give ambiguous specs (date parsing with unknown separators).
  • For Java roles, revise HashMap vs ConcurrentHashMap, streams, multithreading and Spring basics; Python roles get garbage collection and multithreading vs multiprocessing questions.
  • Focus on no more than 3 summer internship applications (the official FAQ's recommendation) and apply early, because review is rolling.
  • Mention real AI-assisted development work (and how you checked the AI's output) on your resume; the official SEP intern page says this sets candidates apart as of Oct 2026.
  • Expect a team-match wait after the offer; keep interviewing elsewhere until you have a signed placement.

4-week plan for JPMorgan Chase

Do this after you finish a core list like Grind 75 or NeetCode 150.

  • Week 1: Solve problems 1 to 20 from the most frequent list. Time-box each at 30 minutes.
  • Week 2: Solve problems 21 to 40. Re-solve any you failed in week 1 without looking.
  • Week 3: Solve the signature problems and every reported question above. Do 2 timed mock interviews.
  • Week 4: Write 8 stories for the Business Principles ('How we do business'), four tenets: exceptional client service; operational excellence; a commitment to integrity, fairness and responsibility; a great team and winning culture. Behavioral rounds and HireVue use STAR-style questions. round. Do 2 full mock loops. Review the online assessment and system design notes above.

Sources

Watch out: All sources fetched 2026-10-04 (LeetCode Discuss posts read via LeetCode's public GraphQL API because the HTML pages return 403 to fetchers; Levels.fyi read from page data). Glassdoor, Reddit and Blind were not reachable (403 or search budget exhausted), so US-specific SEP reports are thin: most 2025 to 2026 first-hand posts are from India (campus and experienced cohort hiring). The US flow (HackerRank, HireVue, Superday or Code for Good) is consistent across official FAQ wording, the techinterview.org guide (secondary, July 2026) and one prachub April 2026 report, but whether US new grads get Code for Good versus a Superday varies by campus and year. Official SEP pages do not list assessment stages, durations, deadlines or locations (locations shown only in the Oracle portal). No official dedicated Code for Good web page was found (only the 2025 official rules PDF). Level/title mapping (SE I/II/III vs Analyst/Associate) is inconsistent across sources. India compensation in LPA. OA question pools differ between India campus, India lateral and US/UK pipelines. The 'J.P. Morgan SDE 2025 Must Solve' LeetCode post (7398769) looked like a generic list and was not used for reported questions. Fact-check pass 2026-10-04: every URL re-fetched (official JPMC pages, PDF, Levels.fyi page data, all LeetCode posts via GraphQL with slug match, all problem slugs). Corrected: location labels added by the first pass where posts do not state India (7915040, 7537690, 8462953, PracHub April 2026 is not labeled US); Business Principles now named as its four tenets; Levels.fyi 602 is 'Senior Associate'; Ascend's '9 locations' are not stated to be US. Added two 2025 to 2026 reports (PracHub Aug 2026 LRU in a text note, LeetCode Nov 2025 SDE-3 Bangalore).
